Sharmin S. Murshid, advisor to the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, has emphasized the need for a science-based society and an environment that fosters free thinking for children. She shared this vision during the inauguration ceremony of World Children's Day and Children's Rights Week 2024, held on Sunday, September 29, at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy auditorium.

Speaking as the chief guest at the event, titled "Building Tomorrow's Bangladesh through the Dreams of Girls," Sharmin S. Murshid stated, "We aspire to build a country that is child-friendly, and a society that will serve as the best platform for children’s free thinking. Every neighborhood should have spaces for children to play, and an environment conducive to their growth. We want each community to provide a nurturing environment for the development of children's latent talents. We seek a science-based society that encourages free thought. Our current civilization is, after all, based on scientific principles, and all the technologies developed today are grounded in these rules."

Advisor Sharmin also referred to the events of the July Revolution, expressing concern that the children of today have witnessed such distressing scenes that it challenges the idea of a "tender, innocent child." She added, "We have failed to offer them love and affection. Even when their companions fell victim to violence on the streets, our collective conscience remained unmoved."

She further reflected, "We have not spoken the truth and have silently tolerated injustice. Our ethics became deaf. Without our own moral integrity, what lessons can we impart to our children? Why can't we ensure their safety? These children were the frontline soldiers of 2024. They have given us a new Bangladesh, and it is our duty to provide them with a safe, beautiful, and secure future."

Sharmin stressed the importance of patience, respect for others, and the need to dismantle societal chaos. "Today’s children are the future leaders, reformers, and entrepreneurs. We must provide them with joy, and through that joy, teach them ethics, values, discipline, and education. Alongside academic studies, children should engage in creative activities, which will enhance their thinking abilities."

The event was presided over by Nazma Mobarak, Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, with a welcome address delivered by Tania Khan, Director General (Additional Secretary) of Bangladesh Shishu Academy. Abdullah Al Mamun, Director of Save the Children Bangladesh, was also a special guest at the event.
